Give “Thanks”
Tomorrow being Thanksgiving and tonight being our service, I thought it was high time I started thinking about things I am thankful for. Of course it goes without saying, I am thankful for my family, for our new grandbabies Sophia and Brayden that came since last year and then there’s our church and ministry and on and on. Oh, yeah, I am grateful that the Broncos won on Monday night and did not humiliate themsevles further…
But I thought about what it really means to be thankful for God and His bigger picture of life and eternity, so I offer this little acrostic to hopefully help…
T – Trinity : I am thankful that God is three distinct persons in one united godhead, and each one ministers to you and I in a personal and wonderful way.
- Father - A Heavenly Father who knows us, loves us and does not change like the shifting shadows
- Son - Who not only came to die for us to make us right with the Father. But one who totally understands us and can personally identify with every single thing we go through.
- Spirit - Who is both with us and “in” us every day. He is the one who leads us, comforts us, counsels us and fills us with his power.
H – Heaven : I am thankful that I can live daily with the hope of Heaven in my life. That my future is secure in God. That the hope of Heaven allows me to keep everything that happens on this earth in perspective, and remind myself – “ I am only passing through”.
A – Almighty : I am thankful that my God is the Almighty One. I don’t have to rely on my very finite wisdom and abilities to navigate through life, but every day God’s almighty power, strength, wisdom and miracles are promised to me.
N – Nations : I am thankful that God so loved the whole world… all the nations! What if God only loved some of the people, and I was one of the people who was left out? But God is no respecter of persons, He values every indivivdual and includes all of us in His marvelous love.
K – Kingdom : I am thankful that God has a kingdom and dominion that rules over the authorities and principalities of this earthly world. I am grateful that I have been called to be both a priest and partaker in this Kingdom of Glory.
S – Salvation : I am thankful most of all for my salvation. I am grateful that each night as I lay my head on pillow I rest secure in God. I am thankful that salvation means my sins are forgiven, and I live in right relationship with my Lord.
I look frward to spending time with those I love both at church and with family over these next couple of days, but above all spending time with our Lord…for it is in Him and Him alone I live and move and have my being.
Now a small prayer for the Jets who surprised a bunch of people last Sunday, with a big win. They play the Cowboys tomorrow…hope they have another surprise in store.
