Raise a child up…
This morning in my quiet time I read Judges 1. Startling stuff even though I have read it many times before. I must admit I was saddened by the verses (10-13) that talk about a generation arose who did not know the Lord nor the works (miracles) He had done for Israel.
It proved sobering to me - to think about the huge job we as parents and church leaders have to not let this happen to the next generation. Unfortunately, in some ways it is happening. I found myself praying this morning for the Lord to really help all of us to be intentional in making sure our kids and young people know not only the salvation of our Lord, but all the great things he has done. We simply cannot fail here. It starts in the home, but the church must step up as well. It sounds like Israel just thought this would “naturally” happen…but it didn’t. And it won’t for us either - unless we are intentional.
Sadly, the passage goes on to say the next generation grew up and (a) forsook the God of their fathers (b) served other gods (c) and even bowed down and worshipped them instead. Well we have “other gods” in our culture too…so let’s please be aware, take heed…and do something about it.
