Is Google the Anti-Christ?
Not so fast on the laugh my friend. After reading the story in this month’s edition of Laptop magazine; “Is Google Good or Evil?”, the writer shared some amazing and true things about this “information giant” that could contribute to the overall empire of the end-time tyrant called the anti-christ.
Now before you all start calling the church and complaining I’ve gone too far…I am not saying the internet is of the devil. It’s actually like so many other things…it can be used for good and profit one greatly - or it can be used in an evil and sinful way…just like TV or radio or books, etc.
But I was enamored by some the things talked about concerning ”Google”. In many ways it comes close to being like a god…it’s very powerful; it knows far more than any one human can know; it seems to be accessible almost everywhere…and it has great persuasive power!
If you don’t think so…then do a little study on how it has increased “consumerism” in the world in unbelieveable ways.
So maybe it’s not truly omniscient, ominpresent, or omnipotent…but it’s way out beyond anything we would have ever even conceived in our minds a while back.
Maybe a Presbyterian minister named Charles Henderson said it best, (Google) “This thing is so powerful we don’t even understand it, and peope are at their keyboards all day worshipping in the information god”. Well how true is that statement? Very! Further many people believe the answer to every question we might ask can somehow be found on Google?
It has even slipped into our everyday vocabulary. Someone asks you a question you don’t know the answer to…and the instant reply is, “I guess we will have to Google it”.
I did try to set up a link so you could read this fasinating article - but no luck. Maybe someone more cuputer savy than I am can do so.
Lastly, if you don’ think all of this is a least a little serious, then be aware there is an official “Church of Google”. It has an offical holiday - September 14 and even has 10 commandments!
So the lesson here is simple - enjoy the web; use the web; but be careful when doing so. By the way I just posted this on tumblr - by way of using Google! OOOOOHHHHH.
