A Tiger in Your Tank
OK hang with me because this is going to be spiritual…trust me. But this morning I was laying in bed thinking about my day and my thoughts turned toward the golf match I watched this weekend on TV. It was a match-play championship and surprise of all surprises –Tiger Woods won! (Come on Phil M. – get with it). Anyway, there was a point in Saturday’s match where Tiger could have very easily lost the match and been eliminated. There was only two holes left – his opponent had tied him and then on the 17th hole Heinrich S. puts the ball on the green and near the pin. To make matters worse, Tiger had hit his shot into a deep sand trap beside the green. It forced him to make an almost impossible shot to get the ball near the pin. If that would have been me – I would still be out there trying to get out of that trap.
So the pressure was on big time…and what does Tiger do? He whacks it out there and it rolls up some 6 feet from the pin – then he sinks a very tough putt…in the mean time his opponent – misses his putt – so Tiger goes into the lead and then wins the match.
Here’s the point…I caught the words of the commentator when Tiger was in the trap. He said, “I am very confident Tiger will not only get the ball out…but near the pin, because he is a MASTER in the sand traps!
Well it made me think about how often I find myself in the “sand traps” of life. I’m trying to make it on the green…trying to have things go well, and I blow it or something goes wrong and I find myself in trouble…down in the sand trap. Now because I play a little golf (and I do mean a little), I know very few people who like sand traps – because they are tough to get out of. Kind of like some of the dilemmas of life. And that’s what made me think about the commentators comment. See when you are in the sand trap – you need a MASTER to help you get out. If I was playing golf and was in a bad trap – there’s not a person in the world I would rather have with me to show me the way out than Tiger Woods.
Well in life…when in the sand trap of life – who could be better to have with you than the MASTER OF ALL MASTER, our Lord Jesus to help you get out? Now Jesus rarely swings the club for us…but he will show us the way to do it. And believe me – I can take a deep breath and relax because there’s not a sand trap in the world my Lord has not seen before. Any thing I face – he knows just what to do! So no matter what you face today…ask Jesus to show you how to take a big whack at your problem…. You might just find yourself on the green next to the pin! Just a thought.
