This may require prayer!

I woke up early this morning a realized something startling…unless something miraculous happens John McCain, Hillary Clinton or Barak Obama will be leading this country in less than a year.  Just the thought of it makes me get up early to pray.  I am serious.  I’m sure we could debate each of their political strengths and weaknesses until the cows come home…but let’s face it; all of them are still products of the somewhat status quo - inside the Beltway gang anyway.

So the real issue is where they are spiritually?  Whoa, this may require prayer.  See when a man or a woman are truly spiritual people - let alone Christians - you never have to guess or try to figure out if that is true.  Yet with each of these that’s exactly what you have to do.  Or in other words the proof is in the puddin’.  Jesus said you would know his followers by their spiritual fruit.

So let’s ask ourselves the tough question.  Each of these has been on the U.S. Political scene for a while…so here’s the question - “from a spiritual perspective what fruit have they born - to let you know they are followers of Jesus Christ?

Unless I am really missing something - I know of none.  As a matter of fact in almost every case except for where it’s a political issue - they all have in one way or another distanced themselves from the Christian community.  Oh, sure they are all running for an office - so the rhetoric is strong now…even religiously.  But that’s the problem - it’s just religious talk.

It’s time to seriously commit ourselves to praying for each of the people that the Holy Spirit of God gets a hold of their life.  It’s also time for true believers to start asking the TOUGH spiritual questions to these people.  That they acknowledge God and churches is not nearly enough.  Let’s all write these folks names down at the top of our prayer lists and pray for encounters like Paul had on the Damascus road that shook him to his core.  Now is the time - not later.
