MARCH MADNESS….more than basketball
Well it’s that time of the year again… we have already lost the hour’s sleep because of daylight’s savings time and now basketballs are everywhere in the air as the college hoop scene comes to the forefront. For guys like me who like college bball this is an interesting time of the year. Honestly, during the season I kind of follow the team rankings – but don’t really watch any of the games except for the last couple of minutes of a close game.
But if all goes well once a few of the 64 teams are eliminated and we get down to the sweet 16 – then I hope to watch a few games. They are exciting with all the crowd interaction. And in college basketball they actually play defense… versus the pro game where they just run up and down the court and score ridiculous amounts of points.
But this year March madness has been taken to a new level and I’m not talking bball. I’m talking life. Just like you I have spent the last couple of days just shaking my head in disbelief at a couple of the events that are playing out right before our eyes.
First of course is this whole debacle with Gov. Elliot Spitzer (now former gov). Can you believe this? Another man throws his career and perhaps his family away for a few minutes of so-called pleasure? I think the Bible says something about that. All those years in school and the pain of taking bar-exams and the years spent developing trust and credibility with friends and family…boom – gone in moment! And did I read this right – he has spent over $80k on this activity? Man that’s two nice SUV’s worth. What can you say but MADNESS.
And one other point of March madness… did you catch the report released this week about teenage girls and sexually transmitted disease? My head spun around about a dozen times when I saw that one out of four are infected with some type of disease. Talk about MADNESS. How have we allowed this to happen? Well that’s another blog and another story, needless to say it’s not just bballs that are flying around right now… it’s a sex crazed society.
