The gospel according to Oprah

When it comes to liking Oprah I feel like I’m riding a yo-yo.  One day she has a guest that is helping everyone get healthy and lose weight (like Dr. Oz) or she is giving away money or helping the children of Africa and I say, “my, no wonder she is so popular”… and my yo-yo is at the top of it’s orb.

But the next moment down goes my yo-yo…because now I see that she is REALLY pushing the new book (and all that goes with it) Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth”… which is no more than a new age substitute and false teaching to the gospel of Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God.

It seems that Oprah like nobody I know is gifted at sticking her finger in the world’s popularity pool and seeing what or whose water is boiling… then she jumps right in with endorsements and vivid exposure.

My concern is she is now soooo influential that people  buy what she says or what she pushes - hook, line and sinker.  But let this be blog-clear (new word)… there is no other source to ultimate happiness and fulfillment in life outside of the saving gospel of the Lord Jesus and life walked out in the power of the Holy Spirit!

The rest is simply artificial and ultimately exalts man and man’s plan above the plans of God.  So readers…beware.  Frankly, Oprah has shifted greatly over the last couple of years from a talk show hostess to a powerful voice of influence over millions of people who are too lazy to honestly evaluate certain things that come down the pike.

Oprah has a great way of sounding spiritual, benevolent, and informed - all at that same time.  But the Bible warns us that such teaching will be everywhere in the last days…both Jesus and Paul warned of such. So my dear friends - don’t buy everything you hear - no matter how fancy its package - or how popular the talk show host who shares it!
