Safe landing…
Fellow blog-ites. Sorry for a few days of no entries but I have been away at our Fellowship’s District Council. By the way it was a great time and the speaker was Dr. George Wood; the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God. In one simple word his messages were simply “amazing”. Wow was I impressed. I want to clear my head a bit and then blog about several of his thoughts - because they were truly mind-boggling.
Anyway at one point during a break time, Dr. Wood and I were sharing about our common experience about traveling in Armenia. We were both stirred by all God is doing there and the land’s marvelous beauty. We also talked at length about how strategic the country is in providing a Christian beach-head in that part of the world.
One of the things Dr. Wood promised me was his report on Armenia he had written a while back and to my great surprise - it was already sitting on my desk when I returned… how’s that for being efficient!
So I took a few minutes to read his great insights and rejoiced at seeing the names of some common friends I had made that he had worked with previously; especially Pastor Rubik - an amazing man.
At the end of Dr. Woods report he referred to Mt Ararat and noted how Noah had made a safe landing. Then he quoted something an Armenian friend of his had written… I loved his insight:
If you stand near… at the base of the magnificent mountain Ararat, your perspective of Noah’s flood experience shifts dramatically. For there, rising above the intensely difficult ordeal of the flood, stands the immense and majestic reality of God’s deliverance. This massive docking place marks the end of Noah’s lonely, stressful trial and the beginning of a new season in his life. It had been there all the time, just under the surface of the water, ready to give him solid footing. It stands today as an ancient and enduring reminder of the immense reality of God’s presence and provision - just under the surface of life’s trials! Whatever your struggles, reach for God’s olive branch and follow it to your own Ararat!
…and the ark came to “rest” on the mountain of Ararat (Gen 8:4). Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you “rest”. (Mt 11:28)
