Shack-done

Being one who wants to keep his promise - I want to give you my sum up of the book The Shack - without ruining it for those who have not read it.  First, let me say it’s definitely worth the read, but it’s also one of the most bizarre books I have ever read.  Now I always try to keep in mind when I am reading a book where I find myself at the time - so maybe the book didn’t buzz me the way it has others because I’ve been reading it during an extremely busy season of life.  But with that said - I must add - if indeed God is at all like the God portrayed in this book - then that insight alone is well worth the read.  Additionally, I think the book’s over-all perspective on the tough issues of life add some hidden insight - from a real gifted writer.  Some really love this writer and he writes a little like Gene Edwards - but come on… who can compare with Gene Edwards when it comes to word pictures?  I must say the ending caught me by surprise and I did struggle a little theologically with the way the God concept is conveyed - cute - but if there is an agenda there by the writer then we need to be very careful.. If he writes with innocence and is just trying to give a new perspective then grace should be given.  You be the judge as you read.  For those of you who absolutely loved it - good for you.  For those of you like me who enjoyed it - but are not ready to buy cases to hand out - that’s OK too.  Happy reading.
