Money, golf and a good God

This morning I have just come home from Florida - where the summer of amazing golf has continued.  God is good.  This week I was in missions meetings - but get some missionaries and preachers together and they will find a way to play golf together every time.

First the spiritual (this eases my conscience) - but seriously.  I was once again amazed as Jeff Dove of Asia Pacific shared what God has been doing in training leaders through our Seminary in the Philippines and our leadership center in Bangkok.  Wow.  But we know these places take money to build and money to run - but there is no more bang for the buck than building leaders who can multiply churches and disciples for Christ.  All I can say is “more fruit and much fruit” (John 15).  That’s what’s happening and so a group of us came together and was able to raise another $300,000 to get these projects finished.  The meetings were thrilling and the testimonies from the pastors and leaders were great. Missionary - Darth Lee - a Cambodian man who was tortured beyond description during the day of Pol Pot -  his story broke my heart and challenged me greatly.  If others of you who are my church leader friends happen to read this and want to jump in to help with these projects please call me at Bethany Church.

Now for a simple word on the golf.  Well earlier this summer I played Pebble Beach - now this weekend Sawgrass!  I don’t know how these guys get you on - but they do.  So on the famous island green on #17.  let me tell you - I hit it right on the green twice. (and once from the pro tee box).  What a thrill.  An even bigger thrill was the team I played with won the little two day tournament! Thanks Phil, Ed, and John for carrying me - I hope your backs aren’t too tired… hah.  Our team finished 18 under par for two days - and friends that’s pretty good on that very tough set of courses.

God is so gracious to give us some fun and great memories as we take this ride for him - but the most wonderful thing - is to hear what he is doing in our world and do what we can to help out!  Hit ‘em straight.
